Winter 2019: Valuing 21st Century Families
The changing world introduces new challenges and opportunities for families that include financial barriers, changing social norms, and environmental factors. How can the Church draw the circle wide in supporting families that take many forms, have different needs and expectations, and live in uncertain times?
Spring 2019: Beyond Presbyterianism
We envision ecumenical and interfaith engagement that can move beyond denominational boundaries to help ease the divisions in a world full of religious tension. Within the context of the United States, we imagine shared ecumenical institutions that can help Christians adapt to a world that is more secular but still in need of God’s grace and call for justice.
Summer 2019: Christian Anti-Militarism
It is time to engage with the tangled-up US narratives of military and Christianity, to challenge the power of the military-industrial-complex, and to highlight the human costs of war both for its direct victims and for veterans who go without adequate healthcare, housing, job training, and treatment for PTSD.
Fall 2020: The Doctrine of Discovery
Commissioned by the 2018 General Assembly of the PC(USA), this issue will cover the fraught history of abuse toward Native Americans that was often justified by Christians using the language of their faith. It will also examine the status quo today, highlighting areas of continued as well as new forms of oppression.
