I was sitting in the chapel last Wednesday between two women

joy” in a verse where “abuser, abused, with need to forgive” […] -

The mass shooting in Odessa and Midland, Texas, on August 31, adds to the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton of August 3 and 4, 2019. These cannot be allowed to recede into the learned-helplessness of our […]

Chris Iosso wrote a new post, The Lost Moral Core of US Foreign Policy: Ecumenical and Reformed Traditions 6 years, 5 months ago

Presbyterians can welcome the grown-up maturity of Chris Iosso’s essay on morality and foreign policy, which the President lacks. The President too often sounds like a whining-teenage, losing quarterback at halftime.
There remains an unresolved question for Protestant social ethics regarding the use of EMPIRE. Jesus was born in an empire, and we live and vote in one. The continental U.S. cannot be regarded as anything less than an empire. Our task is as was Niebuhr’s to learn to live maturely and responsibly in it. See Niebuhr: The Structure of Nations and Empires -
Not sure where the moral core went, as regards the PCUSA. I recall various delegations going to Soviet Russia and “laughing, praying, weeping” with the designated huggy bears and returning to tell us we have nothing to fear but whichever Republican was president.
I used to ask people at Louisville if there were any US efforts in geopolitics or related activities about which the Kremlin and Louisville disagreed.
Nothing.
Israel is defending itself with anti-missile weapons. Those old enough will recall the immense effort the PCUSA put into opposing SDI.
After the First Gulf War, in which, unfortunately, the US checked all the boxes in the Just War Doctrine, the PCUSA GA approved a resolution calling for redoing the JWD.
Transparency, folks. Transparency.
