Originally from South Florida, Vickie moved to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida, majoring in Religion with a double minor in environmental studies and geography. During this time, she began volunteering on a regular basis at the Gainesville Catholic Worker House. It is here where she was exposed to the intersection of justice and food issues. Since the Fall of 2011, Vickie has been living and working full time at the GCW, participating in such projects as Dorothy’s Café and Breakfast Brigade, both of which offer fresh homecooked meals using local ingredients to many of the GCW’s homeless and low income friends. In addition to her work at the GCW, Vickie is a full time graduate student at the University of Florida, pursuing a masters in Religion and Nature. She focuses her studies on sustainability and intentional communities.
